Use this page as a practical educator guide to New York State Career & Financial Management requirements, the sixteen themes, CDOS connections, CTE context, and implementation support.
Start with the requirement before you build the course.
Career & Financial Management (CFM) provides students with career and life skills for success beyond high school. Within a secondary NYSED-approved CTE program, CFM must be included either as a stand-alone course or as embedded content.
For NYSED-Approved CTE Programs
CFM must address all sixteen themes in the state framework. When delivered as a stand-alone course, it must be at least ½ unit of credit. Local schools may also offer CFM outside an approved CTE program based on local curriculum decisions.

Use the CFM framework alongside relevant New York State learning standards and CDOS performance indicators to build practical, standards-based instruction.
Secondary NYSED-approved CTE programs must include at least 3.5 units of CTE coursework, inclusive of the equivalent of ½ unit of Career & Financial Management. Programs may deliver CFM as a stand-alone course or embed its sixteen themes throughout the CTE sequence.
